Barrington Levy is known as the greatest singer to ever come out of Jamaica. He has been titled the living legend of reggae, and his career has been going strong for more than two and a half decades. He was born in Clarendon, Jamaica on April 30, 1964, and formed a band with his cousin, Everton Dacres, early on. They called themselves the Might Multitude. At only 14 years old, he was already performing in dance halls. Mighty Multitude recorded their debut track "My Black Girl" in 1975.

Levy's first solo hit occurred after he was discovered by producer Henry "Junjo" Lawes, who discovered him singing locally and immediately took him to Channel One in 1979. His solo career was taking off, and there was no knowing how far this very talented artist would go. His rich vocals made him a key candidate for collaborative work, bringing him instant recognition as a vocalist with Jah Thomas, Trinity and Toyan. Over the years he has continued his collaborative efforts, also performing with U2, Snoop Doggy Dog, Maxi Priest, and Whitney Houston. His first album, titled Englishman was a genial and laid-back album that earned him wide recognition.

By the time he recorded his 1980 album Robing Hood he had become one of the biggest stars in Jamaica, and he was only rising in fame. He went on from there to record an amazing volume of albums. Over 25 of his albums have been released in the last 28 years. His early years saw an amazing two to four albums in some of his more productive years. Even when he slowed down his production schedule when he reached his teens, he was still producing a consistent album every year. The only long sabbatical he took from recording was between the release of four albums in '84, including Life Style and his self-titled album, and the release of Love the Life You Live in '88.
