Bad girl turned pop star Belinda Carlisle may first be known for her stint with the ‘80s rock band the Go-Go's, yet the stunning vocalist proved to America in the late ‘80s and ‘90s that she could be just as successful, if not more so, on her own as a softer version of her Go-Go's counterpart, a contemporary pop singer. Songs like "Heaven is a Place on Earth" have solidified Carlisle's place in music history, and every successive hit is just an added bonus to her incredible fame.

Carlisle grew up in the ‘70s around the music scene in Los Angeles, California, and joined the group the Misfits (which later evolved into the girl group the Go-Go's) in 1978. First releasing their hit song "We Got the Beat" in England, the Go-Go's quickly ran with the song in the U.S., infecting American culture with rock music that can certainly be tagged as one of the leading influences on the California punk scene of the ‘80s. Drug addictions and internal conflicts within the band put the Go-Go's phenomenal fame to a halt and, although the band would later reunite for short stints, the Go-Go's were kaput in 1985. Carlisle took the open opportunity soon thereafter to ignite her solo career, cleaning up her image before debuting as a pop princess.

Carlisle's first solo album, 1986's Belinda, went gold, preparing fans for her next album Heaven on Earth. Heaven on Earth was the vocalist's most popular album release, and the title track "Heaven is a Place on Earth" landed at the coveted number one spot on the Billboard Top 100 in 1987. Carlisle went on to release another wildly popular album, 1989's Runaway Horses, but her five minutes in pop heaven were almost to an end. 1991's Live Your Life Be Free and 1993's Real rounded out her fading career, and after bouncing back and forth with a revived Go-Go's in 1994, the singer has most recently released the album Voila in 2007.
