All it takes is one note from the smash song "More Than a Feeling" to open the floodgates of the late ‘70s, and along with the memory comes the rock band that claims it, the legendary Boston. Formed in the city it got its name from, Boston easily became a staple in great American rock music, earning an impressive list of number one albums and singles on the Billboard charts while retaining complete domination over fans in an era of rock music greatness.

The Toledo, Ohio native Tom Scholz is mostly to credit for the formation of Boston, as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology alum began writing songs while getting his masters degree from the university. Busying himself in a project to turn his basement into a 12-track recording studio, Scholz then teamed up with Brad Delp and the two scored a major recording contract with Epic in 1975. Picking up Barry Goudreau, Fran Sheehan and John Hashian, the original Boston then released their first and most life-changing album, the 1976 self-titled classic. Consisting largely of tracks recorded in Scholz's basement, Boston easily became one of the fastest-selling debut albums in history. The album's hit singles "More Than a Feeling," "Long Time" and Peace of Mind" were all instant American favorites, and the band next set out recording its tough-to-follow-up release. 1978's Don't Look Back amazingly scored as much success as Boston's debut album, peaking at number one on the pop charts. Boston's third album didn't come out until 1986, but the arena rockers were already bathing in enough success to last a lifetime.

Scholz and Delp ultimately were the only two band members who stuck it out with Boston until the end. Going off the radar but reemerging in 2002, Boston rallied with Corporate America and a nation-wide tour before the shocking death of Delp, Boston was buried with him in 2007.
