Briskeby was formed in Norway in 1996, and first performed under the name of Cosmic Debris. The group began to grow in popularity starting in 1999 when singer Lise Karlsnes came on the scene. The singer was 20 at the time, and completely unknown, but her performance as the lead singer for the band's gig at the by-Larme music industry convention solidified her place as one of the hottest new singers in her country. The performance became a thing of legend, driving the group from virtual anonymity to international recognition.

Since then the band has gone on to become one of the most famous Norwegian bands of this decade, propelling Karlsnes to a-list celebrity status in her home country and gaining a incredible amount of notoriety for the rest of the band. A bidding war ensued for the group's first album, Universal Music won the battle and the group went on to record their debut album Jeans for Onassis, in 2000. The album proved that this group, indeed, was growing in popularity. The album sold well, gained several big hits on the radio, and eventually went on to win four Norwegian Grammys.

Briskeby has released two more albums since their debut. Tonight Captain was released on June 30, 2004, and became a big hit in their home country. Then in 2008, they released Jumping On Cars, on June 24. This group of talented artists certainly seems to be rising to the top, and there doesn't seem to be any ceiling to stop them. Their singles often equal the popularity of their albums. The lead singer's star status does not seem to be flagging, and the group as a whole is raking in the rewards.
