There is nothing quite like the silky, sultry sounds of smooth rhythm and blues music, especially when it is performed by one of the best bands in the business. Brownstone first formed in Los Angeles in 1993 and was comprised of singers Mimi, Nicci and Maxee. Their vision for their music included incorporating a classic-bluesy feel while maintaining the modern feel of hip-hop music. Their most successful song to date continues to be the 1995 hit single "If You Love Me." The song peaked at the number eight spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles chart as well as capturing the number two slot on the Billboard Hot R&B songs chart. The song also earned Brownstone a Grammy nomination as well as Billboard Music Award.
The group dedicated themselves to extensive touring around the globe in support of their first efforts, appearing in various world cities and gathering a massive fan base of followers. Other hits for the group included "Grapevyne," "I Can't Tell You Why" and "Freedom," all which were released in the mid-1990s. The girls persevered on through the rest of the decade, although Mimi left the group during this time and had to be replaced, which ultimately resulted in a lull for Brownstone's successes.
Today, the members of Brownstone have reformed to once again take their singing abilities to the recording studio and hopefully soon, back to the stage. They have a new album due out in late 2008, and fans are likely waiting in anticipation to see what singles will spawn from the girls' latest effort. One thing is for certain; Brownstone took the R&B and hip hop genres and melded them into cohesive and flowing tempo that is appreciated by millions of fans around the globe.
