You can't really compare C + C Music Factory with any other groups because they weren't actually a group themselves. The group consisted of producers and songwriters Robert Clivillés and David Cole. The duo hooked up in the 1980s at a nightclub in New York. Clivillés was the DH and Cole was on the keyboard. They started mixing together and decided to team up for further pursuits. They also decided not to perform any of the music they released themselves and instead to write and produce songs for other talents. They started with an R&B group called Seduction. They helped the group release their debut album, but C +C was just getting started.

In 1991, the duo released the first album with their name titled Gonna Make you Sweat. The album was a commercial success and reached number two on the Billboard 200 chart and number 11 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The artists on that release were Deborah Copper, Martha Walsh and Freedom Williams. The fact that the album featured the name of C + C Music Factory instead of the artists landed the duo in some legal troubles, but it didn't stop them from producing more albums.

They released a greatest hits album in 1992 before releasing their follow up in 1994, Anything Goes!, which had some contributors from the first album and also a Latin group called Trilogy. They released another album in the 1990s titled C + C Music Factory. Along with C + C releasing albums, they also produced hits for stars like Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. Tragically, Cole died at the young age of 32 in 1995 from spinal meningitis.
