Cabas was born Andrés Cabas Rosales in Colombia and was born into good musical taste. His father was a composer who introduced Cabas to music at a young age. He started playing the piano at the age of six and soon had a variety of instruments mastered. He takes his style from a variety of influences like Latin, classical and jazz. He gained a following through his unique style of mixing traditional Colombian music with the newer sounds of rock and electronica.
Cabas released his self-titled debut album in the early 2000s, first in his home country and later in the United States and elsewhere. The album started to get him recognition internationally and he had positive reviews on Billboard and in the Los Angeles Times. He soon had other stars supporting him like The Clash, Lenny Kravitz and fellow Latin sensation Shakira. He also performed many tours with those three. It was his tours around the United States and the world that propelled Cabas to an even higher level of fame. He followed it up with Contacto in 2003, which received rave reviews from media outlets like The New York Times.
Cabas decided to stretch his musical strengths and record an album that took risks musically. The result was Puro Cabas, which he released in 2005. Although some of the songs were adventurous, it kept an up-beat tone that fans loved and even featured work with the Black Eyed Peas composers. This release also got him recognition at the Latin Grammys, where he was nominated for multiple awards. He went even further into experimentation mode with his newest release, "Amores Dificiles," which hit stores in 2008. He has somehow been able to bring together the importance of classic music with the forward-thinking sounds of modern music. His fans are already anticipating what he will be working on next.
