Caedmon's Call is a Christian music band that has a very interesting story behind their name. They named themselves after a monk, Caedmon, who lived in England in the fifth century. According to legend,Caedmon fell asleep while trying to avoid being made to sing with a group of friends who had been drinking. An angel came to him in a dream and commanded him to sing praises to God, which he did. From then on he had a beautiful talent for singing and creating music. In this vein, Caedmon's Call reminds themselves constantly of their reliance on God for their gift, ever striving to honor him with what they can do.

The group was formed in the summer of 1992, by a group of students from Texas Christian University in Houston. They began touring college campuses across the South and eventually developed enough of a following to produce their own album. In June of '94 they released their first album and a second in '95. The band was picked up by Warner Alliance after this and their debut album Caedmon's Call was released in 1997. Since then the band has released seven albums, most recently Overdressed in 2007.

They are comprised of seven members, Cliff Young on rhythm guitar and lead vocals. Danielle Young is Cliff's wife and also sings vocals. Garett Buell is the percussionist, Jeff Miller is on bass and Todd Bragg is the drummer. Accordion, keys and harmonica are all played by Josh Moore with Andrew Osenga as the other guitarist and second male vocalist.

The band is a promoter of living the missional life and has a long-established relationship with the humanitarian organization Compassion International. They have also linked themselves with the Dalit Freedom Network, who fights caste discrimination in India. Their desire is to change perspectives, change church lives and share what it means to believe that Jesus Christ died for the individual, impacting a hurting world positively.
