Revolutionary doo wop group the Dreamers were one of the few all-female outfits in the R&B genre in the mid-1950's. The Dreamers backed famed R&B singer Richard Berry for several singles and only released one single under their own name. Flip issued "Do Not Forget"/"Since You've Been Gone" in 1957 and the group also issued a few singles for Class billed as the Rollettes as well as going by the Dreamers featuring Richard Berry for a 1954 single.
The doo wop group, whose sound was pumped up with pop, switched names to the Blossoms in 1957 when they signed with major label Capitol Records. Although best known as being one of the most well-known backup vocal groups of the early 1960s, the now-named Blossoms also recorded several of their own singles for various labels. The most famous Blossom, Darlene Love, wasn't a member of the Dreamers (she joined the group in 1963).
In 2001 Ace released They Sing Like Angels, a Dreamers' compilation which featured the Dreamers' Flip single, some Rollette's tracks and various cuts from the Berry and the Dreamers years in the ‘50s. Although only two songs on the record were accredited solely to the Dreamers, the compilation was nonetheless a hit for fans of the Dreamers and Richard Berry due to its mid-50's R&B sound and inclusion of pop into the doo wop genre (rare for the time). The Dreamers perform under their original name today, with Gloria Jones, Fanita Barrett and sisters Annette and Nannette Blossoms (thus the switch to the name the Blossoms) continuing to take the stage with doo wop sounds of the ‘50s (Fred Willis fills in for the late Richard Berry).
