Carl Cox was born in Oldham, Manchester, in England in 1962, but his family was originally from Barbados. As one of the future favorite, considered the best DJ in the world, Cox had his start with the turntables at his family gatherings when he was eight years old. He bought his own turntables at the age 15. Throughout his teens he discovered any opportunity available to DJ, and took full advantage of each one that came up. Looking back, his pathway to becoming an internationally renowned artist seems to have been pretty much set in stone from the beginning.

It was during the acid house boom that took place in the mid-‘70s and ‘80s that Cox reputation began to flourish and he really found his niche. From there on out it was upward movement for him. His use of three separate decks in the mix gave him the well-deserved reputation of being one of the top DJs of the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. At the start of the ‘90s he signed a long-term production deal with Paul Oakenfold's Perfecto Records, an unheard of accomplishment.

Oakenfold's choice proved to be a good one, however, when the DJ's debut single "I want You (Forever)" hit number 23 on the British charts. After his second single "Does it Feel Good to You" broke the Top 40, he diversified by creating his own label, which he titled Worldwide Ultimatum.
