Cutting Crew was formed by guitarist Kevin Scott MacMichael and vocalist Nick Van Eede, who met in Halifax, Nova Scotia while touring with their bands. MacMichael moved to England not long after meeting Van Eede, creating an opportunity for the duo to start pursuing a musical collaboration. In 1985 Cutting Club was formed and soon after completed their lineup with the addition of bassist Colin Farley and drummer Martin Beadle.

The previous band experience that the individual members had boded well for the band, and in 1987 the single "(I Just) Died in Your Arms" created an international sensation giving them top places in the charts in Europe and North America. With their debut single the band did what many only dream of, with their song peaking at number one on The Billboard Hot 100. From there the band continued their success with their album Broadcast which peaked at 16 on The Billboard 200. Another single from the album, "I've Been In Love Before," also peaking in the top ten on The Billboard Hot 100.

Cutting Crew continued their successes with a worldwide tour where they opened for The Bangles, Starship, and Huey Lewis & the News. In '89, the group released The Scattering. Even though this album did not win the acclaim that the previous album did the album's musical integrity, steering away from commercial influences, caused it a few problems but it is still an excellent piece of ‘80s nostalgia. Unfortunately the band was short-lived, and in 1993 they called an end to their collaboration as a band. MacMichael went on work with Robert Plant on the hit album Fate of Nations, but tragically died at the age of 51. The band has since reformed, and released their latest album Grinning Souls, in 2006.
