DJ Quik has seen every side of the rap industry and has paved the way for many rappers who followed in his footsteps. He raps about his personal experiences and has tried to mature through his music, by creating amazing lyrical masterpieces. He was born David Martin Blake in Compton, California on January 18, 1970. He worked with other artists on mixtapes and soon found himself with a deal through Profile Records. He released his debut, Quik Is the Name, in 1991 and the album went platinum with hits like "Tonite" and "Born and Raised in Compton."

He followed it up with Way 2 Fonky in 1992, Safe & Sound in 1995 and Rhythm-al-ism in 1998. They did not match the sales of his debut album, but each found success with singles like "Way 2 Fonky" and "Jus' Lyke Compton." He switched labels to Universal Records after releasing Balance & Options and released Under the Influence in 2002. He again switched labels after this release, this time creating his own label called Mad Science Recordings. Under this label he released Trauma in 2006 and re-released Under tha Influence as well as a greatest hits album.

While DJ Quik is a successful rap artist, he is almost more successful as a writer and producer. He has worked with some of the best in the business and his list includes working on the albums of 2nd II None, Snoop Dogg, 2 Pac, Suga Free, Janet Jackson, Xzibit, Jermaine Dupri, Jay-Z, Chingy and Jadakiss. His contribution to rap and the music world in general has been monumental and virtually unmatched. He continues to be in demand by rappers and hip-hop artists who know he can deliver on their albums.
