If you're a soft rock fan, than you'll recognize The Dave Matthews Band.

The group came together by South African vocalist and songwriter Dave Matthews in Charlottesville, Virginia in the early ‘90s. In search of a new sound to accompany his lyrics, Matthews found jazz musicians Carter Beauford on drums and saxophonist LeRoi Moore, along with recommended 16-year-old musical prodigy, bassist Stefan Lessard, as well as pianist Peter Griesar, who left the group after a few years, and violinist Boy Tinsley.

The newly formed Dave Matthews Band started playing local gigs before self-releasing their debut album, Remember Two Things in 1993. DMB quickly caught the attention of major record labels and signed with RCA, and shortly after they released their 1994 album Under the Table and Dreaming, which eventually sold over four million copies in the U.S. alone.

In 1996 DMB released Crash, which led them to tour and multi-platinum status via the five hit singles from the album. At the same time, the group launched an overall attack on bootleggers, who were selling semi-legal discs of their live performances. By 1997 DMB, along with the U.S. Government, cracked down on these illegal sales and put a suspension on the entire industry. With this, DMB released their own two-disc live album Live at Red Rocks 8.15.95 later that year. Unexpectedly, the album reached the third spot on the charts and sold over a million copies.

After a few more albums, their album Stand Up made DMB the only band other than U2 to have four consecutive albums reach number one. Matthews and Tim Reynolds toured Europe and the US in 2007, returning to the studio to complete their next album. The group suffered a loss when founding member LeRoi Moore died due to injuries from an ATV accident in August, and have yet to complete the album.
