Debbie Harry was such an integral part of the 1970s groundbreaking punk band Blondie that people often thought the band name was also hers. Harry was born in 1945 and raised by her adoptive family in New Jersey. She started singing in church at a young age. She went to college after high school but dropped out not long after to try her luck in New York City. She had jobs from a cocktail waitress to a playboy bunny before joining a girl trio called the Stilettos. It was through this group that Harry met Chris Stein, and she and Stein decided to start a group together in 1974.

The newly-created group took shape and became Blondie, gaining a reputation in the clubs of New York. The group released their self-titled debut album in 1986, followed by Plastic Letters. The latter was a success in the UK with the single "Denis." Blondie would become a massive success with their next release Parallel Lines, which featured the hit single "Heart of Glass." Blondie was now on top, and continued their reign with Eat to the Beat in 1979 and Autoamerican in 1980. It was also around this time that Harry started branching out into an acting career as well.

Blondie called it quits in the early 1980s, and Harry released her solo debut Koo Koo. Although critics panned the album, fans loved her first effort on her own. She took a few years to release her next album, but when she did, it was a fan and critical success. Harry followed it up with Def, Dumb and Blonde in 1993 and Debravation in 1993. Along with her releases, she continued acting. In the 2000s, she reunited to perform with Blondie and also released the album Necessary Evil in 2007, which was a surprise success.
