If you've ever danced to house music in almost any country around the globe, then you've probably been listening to Deep Dish.
House, trance and techno combined equals Deep Dish. The duo, Ali "Dubfire" Shirazinia and Sharam Tayebi, were both born in Iran but didn't cross paths until a 1991 dance event in the United States capital, Washington DC. Setting up the production label Deep Dish just a year later, these aspiring DJs found themselves banking in dance-hit heaven. Their first album, Junk Science created such a melting pot of acclaim that the duo have continued to tour, produce, mix and record in the decade since.
By 1994 they had earned a name for themselves as the rulers of the remix, setting up a sub-label called Yoshitoshio for the release of similar groups like Submarine, Satori, Alcatraz and Hani. A friend convinced UK record label Tribal to sign Deep Dish, where they produced hit singles and a full-length mix debut. Deep Dish eventually took charge of compilations for Tribal America and Slip'N'Slide.
The duo found commercial success with De'lacy's hit single "Hideaway," which lead to other hit artists seeking their mixing skills, including Michael and Janet Jackson, Tina Turner, the Beloved and the Shamen. After several mix albums, Deep Dish recorded their first proper studio album, Junk Science in 1998. They have continued to release several more of their usual mix sets over the next few years, into the new millennium.
Deep Dish earned themselves a 2001 Grammy nomination in the category Remixer of the Year for their remixing work on Madonna's "Music" single and Amber's "Sexual (LA Da Di)." The following year the duo saw their first Grammy win, for Best Remixed Recording for the remix of Dido's "Thank You." That same year their Global Underground Moscow mix won the Dancestar USA's "Best Compilation" award, which was followed by their third volume of Yoshiesque, in 2003.
