What better way to target the highest economic spending group in the nation than by making a musical group made entirely of that faction? Walt Disney Pictures were the genius' behind the children's music group Devo 2.0, literally a children's band that spurred out of the formerly popular adult ‘80s band Devo. Devo fan and Buena Vista Music Group vice president David Agnew approached former Devo members Gerald V. Casale and Mark Mothersbaugh about creating a solely children's Devo. The result was five children, aged nine to thirteen, that covered classic (and often updated) Devo tunes. While the coed group's singles were mostly unoriginal and extremely un-offensive, Devo 2.0 did extremely well.
Try-outs were held, and five exceptionally talented and young musicians earned spots on the Walt Disney production. Keyboardist and vocalist Jackie Emerson, bassist Michael Gossard, guitarist and vocalist Nathan Norman, drummer Kane Ritchoette and lead vocalist Nicole Stoehr sang Devo singles like "Cyclops," "Through Being Cool," "That's Good," and "Whip It." And just like many other Disney groups, the Devo 2.0-ers started touring the nation, visiting shopping malls and schools across the nation. In 2006, with a ton of help from Devon regulars Bob Mothersbaugh, Mark Mothersbaugh, Gerald V. Casale and Robert Casale (who did most of the instrumental chores), Devon 2.0's self titled debut album was released.
