Cadet Mahoney (played by Steve Guttenberg) isn't fitting in at all at the police academy his influential father got him into. If this sounds like the start of the plot of the 1984 comedy Police Academy, you're right. However, save for the part about Steve Guttenberg it's also the first act in the life of rock star Eddie Money, who was born Eddie Mahoney and originally followed in the career path of his police officer father by training to become a cop. While studying to join the force, Eddie Mahoney snuck away when he could in order to sing in rock bands under the stage name Eddie Money. Eventually he dropped out of the academy and moved to Berkeley, California to pursue his dream of becoming a rock star.
Eddie Money worked the Bay Area as hard as he could, and finally caught a break when a big-time promoter took an interest in him. Money signed to Columbia Records, which issued forth his first album, an eponymous record that contained singles hits like "Baby Hold On," "Two Tickets to Paradise" and "You've Really Got A Hold On Me." Eddie Money was a glorious debut album that introduced the rocker to a nation of adoring fans who awaited his next set of releases. Eddie gave his fans what they wanted, putting out no less than six more highly-successful albums "Think I'm In Love" received more attention than they otherwise would have warranted.
