If the members of H.I.M. were to hang up their instruments today and never make music again, they would already go down in history as the only Finish band to ever have a gold album in the United States. It took the band more a decade to get that kind of recognition, but once they did it pushed them to keep producing hit albums, much to their fans' relief. They came together in Finland in 1995 and started honing their goth rock sound. Their 1996 debut EP, 666 Ways to Love, started to make a name for the band in Scandinavia.
Their popularity increased with the release of Greatest Love Songs, Vol. 666 the next year. That album would later reach number 31 on the Top Heatseekers chart after the band became more known in the United States. Razorblade Romance was released next in 2000 and the European tour that came with that album further helped the band's worldwide popularity. They followed it up in 2002 with Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights. Two years later, this album would be the first of the band's to make the Billboard 200 chart, peaking at number 190. Love Metal came next in 2003 followed by a greatest hits album and compilation albums.
The band released all of their albums in the United States along with their newest release, Dark Light, which hit stores in 2005. Dark Light reached number 18 on the Billboard 200 chart and also went gold. It's follow up, Venus Doom, dropped in 2007 and did even better by peaking at number 12 on the Billboard 200 chart. They released a live album called Digital Versatile Doom Live at the Orpheum Theatre in 2008 that also made it onto the charts. Now a solid force in the United States, H.I.M. has fans waiting to see what they will do next.
