Erick Sermon's most famous hit, "Music" continues to get play on the radio, in the club and on cell phones around the world, despite the fact that his hip-hop classic came out all the way back in 2001. When it comes to low-key, smoothed-out beats that effortlessly gain control of the head bobbing function of your brain, there's no better artist than Erick Sermon.

New York native Erick Sermon met up with Parrish Smith to form the hip hop group EPMD, an acronym for "Erick and Parrish Making Dollars," in the mid 1980s. It was clear that Erick and Parrish were onto something from the get-go, as they both possessed superior vocal talents and more than enough fresh ideas about mixing records to keep them busy in the studio for years. The group's first big success came with the single "It's My Thing," which appeared on their debut album, Strictly Business, in 1998. Strictly Business would later become one of the foundational works in hip hop. Its sampling of famous pop and rock standards would go on to influence countless future artists that followed EPMD's model- including P. Diddy, Ruff Ryders, The Neptunes, Mos Def, and The Beatnuts.

With the release of his first solo album, No Pressure, in 1993, Erick Sermon as an individual artist entered the urban music scene in his native New York. Sermon, who sometimes goes by The Green Eyed Bandit, MC Grand Royal and E-Double-E, would not reach mainstream success until Music, and its title track, became a smash hit in 2001. "Music" is still Erick Sermon's signature song, an endearing single that will be remembered for its hypnotizing simplicity.

By the early 2000s Sermon was an in-demand producer and collaborator, someone with whom any aspiring hip hop artist would like to work. He would go on to help some of hip-hop's most influential and successful artists, including Redman, Method Man, Keith Murray and Ja Rule. Erick Sermon's influence can be seen with Hit Squad and Def Squad albums. On into the late 2000s, Erick Sermon continues to preach the gospel of hip-hop to his loyal congregation of fans. Singles like "React," "Love Iz," "Feel It" and "Street Hop" are a few examples of his continued success in the genre. Fans can't wait for his next solo single or collaboration to hit the market.
