There is something to be said for originality in music these days. Often listeners are greeted with the same, regurgitated ballads that are frequently repeated in afternoon radio sets during the course of a commute home. This generalization can not be attributed to the rock band from Little Rock, Arkansas known as Evanescence. Since 1995, the group has collaborated together to create music that offers a much needed breath of fresh air to all of their listeners. The deep, dark and hauntingly beautiful melodies that are released from Evanescence are celebrated as elegant, and their sound is one that transcends genres and takes a bold step in redefining the sound of modern rock as we know it.

Evanescence was conceived by singer, pianist and songwriter Amy Lee and lead guitarist and songwriter Ben Moody. The two musicians collaborated together on several occasions, playing on local radio stations and performing the songs "Solitude," "Give Unto Me" and "Understanding." During this time the two performers were relatively unknown, but all that would change in 2003.

The duo added more musicians to their lineup, hit the recording studio and released what would become their first mainstream success, Fallen, which had the single"Bring Me to Life." The single gave them two wins at the 2004 Grammy Awards for Best Hard Rock Performance and Best New Artist. "My Immortal," "Going Under" and "Everybody's Fool."

After their initial success and their introduction to the world music stage the band focused on their next album, Anywhere But Home, which was a live CD that featured behind-the-scenes features as well as a previously unreleased song called "Missing." Shorty afterward, Evanescence followed up with their second studio album, The Open Door. The Open Door was released in 2006 to critical acclaim. The resulting creation is something deep and brooding and one that appeals to one's inner soul. They are by all accounts rewriting the way many people interpret rock. Keep an eye out for their upcoming albums.
