Fabian was one of the teen idols of 1950s rock ‘n' roll, whose fame and fortune seemed to come quickly and easily at the beginning of his life as a star. He was born Fabiano Anthony Forte on February 6, 1943. His childhood friends were Frankie Avalon and Bobby Rydell, who he is still performing with today. Fabian grew up on the South Side of Philadelphia and attended South Philly High School, with his glowing good looks and magnetic personality he was already set to become one of the hottest stars in Rock ‘n' Roll. After the success of long-time friend Frankie Avalon, Fabian found himself being scouted out to become a star by the same men who helped to make his friend famous.
Even though his voice was not the most notable, his good looks won him acclaim as a teenage heart throb, with girls going wild everywhere he appeared. After a period of struggle to get him heard and draw attention to his music, the young star found himself the center of attention across America. Fabian quickly found his voice, however, and as his singing had improved he found himself, at the age of 18, with an impressive number of hit singles and a few gold records. By 1959 he set aside his music for a time to pursue several more lucrative film deals, staring in the 20th Century Fox film Hound Dog Man. He also starred in the 1960 movie North To Alaska as Billy Pratt, the younger brother of John Wayne's co-star George who was played by Stuart Granger. Fabian's musical career flagged in the ‘60s when it the "payola" scandal surfaced and it was discovered that he had benefited from it. However he continued to sing on-stage and has appeared in several films since then, his most recent role being in Mr. Rock ‘n' Roll - The Alan Freed Story.
