The Figurines are a group of Danish lads who grew up in Aalborg, Denmark. Eventually their love for music prompted them to form the band in the mid-‘90s and thus one of the best bands in Denmark was born. The group started out with three original members with Christian Hjelm as the vocalist and guitarist, Andreas Toft on bass and Claus Salling Johansen also on the guitar and vocals. Originally all three friends played guitar, but to start themselves off as a full band Toft moved to the bass and Johansen took over the drums for a time. The group eventually found Kristian Volden to cover the drums for them on a more permanent basis.
When they first started out the group enjoyed playing local gigs in their hometown and the nearby area, but they began to make their first road to fame in 2001, when they recorded their first EP. It contained five tracks which they recorded over the period of a weekend. It sold fast, showing that the group had a lot of musical potential. Shortly after that the group found themselves inking a contract with the Denmark indie Morningside Records. They released their first full length Shake a Mountain in December of 2002, making excellent sales and receiving rave reviews in their home country.
The group eventually went on to become Denmark's musical ambassadors, embarking on a tour that was partly financed by their government in order to raise the country's international profile and generate export sales. The group took the honor seriously, and presented live shows around the world with such skill that their fan base spread rapidly. Their sunny brand of pop-rock is definitely something to hum along to, and is really worth checking out.
