There is a reason that Floetry sounds a lot like poetry. The flow of their music has gained them a notable reputation around the world. Their incorporation of R&B, soul and hip hop provides for one of the most innovative blending of genres, and the execution of the songs by members Marsha Ambrosius and Natalie Stewart is notably without flaw. In fact, their journey began with poetry when both Ambrosius and Stewart appeared at open-microphone nights to showcase their combination of song and spoken word. The collaboration was a huge success, introducing the girls to a wide ranging group of fascinated fans. Over the years, they have written lyrics for Jill Scott, Dru Hill and Michael Jackson.
In 2000, the duo traveled from the U.K. to the United States in order to make the rounds in the poetry circuit. They frequented many various cafes and were welcomed into the spoken-word culture with open arms. Two years later, they signed with Dreamworks Records and subsequently released their debut album called Floetic. Two popular singles spawned from the record, both "Floetic" and "Say Yes." The album became an instant sensation in both the United States and the United Kingdom. The following year, they released a live album, titled Floacism, which featured the single "Wanna B Where U R," featuring rapper Mos Def. A third album, Flo-Ology, was released in 2005 and featured the single "Supastar."
Unfortunately, at the end of 2006, the members of Floetry parted ways, each seeking to pursue solo careers. Ambrosius is currently writing for such notable performers as Alicia Keys and Mary J. Blige, while Stewart remains focused on releasing her own material under the stage name The Floacist. While Floetry no longer exists as a band, their songs are still appreciated and admired throughout the world.
