Coining the high-pitched harmonic doo-wop songs "Big Girls Don't Cry" and "Walk like a Man," the Four Seasons joined the similar-sounding Beach Boys to dominate American airwaves with their original pop-infused power doo-wop numbers and stylish hits in the ‘60s. One of the only music groups to survive the British Invasion in the mid-1960s, the Four Seasons remains a staple band yet today on oldies radio station circuits across the country.

Originally formed out of Newark, New Jersey, the Four Seasons came about in the mid-‘50s when Frankie Valli joined the Variety Trio, along with Hank Majewski and brothers Nick and Tommy Devito. Changing their names to the Variatones, the group toured around New Jersey and eventually signed a record deal with RCA, thereby renaming themselves the Four Lovers. Five years and several changes in the band's lineup later, the Four Lovers became the Four Seasons, changing their moniker to the name of a bowling alley lounge that had refused the band a booking. Making it personal, the Four Seasons began lining up their music for success. 1962's "Sherry" was the group's first single to light up the charts, leading the way for the Four Seasons to quickly dominate the music scene with hits "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Walk Like a Man," "Candy Girl," "Tell it to the Rain" and "C'Mon Marianne."

Withstanding the pressure of British Invasion bands like the Beatles that pushed many other American acts to the side during this time, the Four Seasons continued to take the nation captive through the ‘70s with singles like "December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night)" before Valli dabbled in a solo career, recording the biggest hit of his career with the title track to the film Grease in 1978. Lasting through the decades, Valli and the Four Seasons continued to perform into the 1990s, staying on scene throughout the 2000s.
