Dubbed the godfather of house music, the legendary Frankie Knuckles was way ahead of his time with his acid house style of electronica music. Knuckles' bumping beats and mesmerizing tracks sent the electronica realm into a state of shock, fans watching in awe as the great Frankie Knuckles single-handedly transformed modern dance music.

A product of New York's Bronx neighborhood, Frankie Knuckles grew up in the late ‘50s and ‘60s inspired by jazz music. The innovative artist studied commercial art and costume design in school, taking a job as a DJ in New York in 1971. A partnership with childhood friend Larry Levan led the duo to rising success in the house realm, the two mixing together until Knuckles moved to Chicago in the late ‘70s to bring his fresh East Coast dance tunes to the Midwest's hotspot, spinning at the Warehouse while drawing throngs of crowds to his performances. Knuckles opened his own club the Power Plant in 1983, thereafter focusing on his solo music career. Hit singles "Your Love," Baby Wants to Ride" and "You Got the Love" propelled the budding musician through the mid-‘80s, and his collaborations with Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Chaka Khan and En Vogue led to immeasurable success for the well-acclaimed DJ.

By the early 1990s, Frankie Knuckles had garnered attention from everyone except major record labels. His ingenious acid house remixes were played on the club circuits nationwide, but it took until 1991 for Virgin Records to finally bait Knuckles into a recording contract. Knuckles' debut album Beyond the Mix was released in 1991, spawning hit singles "The Whistle Song," "Rainfalls" and "Workout," all of which were instant classics on the club scene. Continuing to release his classic remixes along with original material, Knuckles recorded and released his sophomore album Welcome to the Real World in 1995, working on hits through the 2000s.
