"Dream Weaver" takes you back, doesn't it? The iconic, smooth ‘70s hit is brought to you by progressive rocker Gary Wright, who delivered his signature brand of keyboard, guitar and vocals in the era of free love.

Before he hit it out of the park with "Dream Weaver" in 1976, Wright (born in 1943 in Creskill, NJ) was a child actor who was featured in the Broadway production of Fanny. Wright fronted a few rock bands while in high school but pursued a career in psychology in Berlin at Frei University before turning his full attention to music. In 1967 the New York Times (Wright's band) opened for Traffic and subsequently was introduced to Chris Blackwell of Island Records. Blackwell introduced Wright to the members of Art and he relocated to London to join the band, which changed their name to Spooky Tooth and secured a spot among the U.K.'s most popular hard rock groups. Wright joined Wonderwheel in 1970 after Spooky Tooth temporarily broke up and simultaneously played keyboards for Beatle George Harrison on All Things Must Pass. Harrison and Wright forged a friendship and traveled to India together, where Wright was inspired for his later solo efforts. In 1973 Spooky Tooth reconvened briefly but the next year saw Wright on his own again, just in time to release The Dream Weaver in 1975. The album's title track was well as "Love Is Alive" spared to the tops of the Billboard charts and the album went platinum.

Wright followed up the success of The Dream Weaver with several albums such as 1979's Headin' Home, but his releases failed to match his previous solo success. "Really Wanna Know You" (from 1981's The Right Place) was Wright's last appearance on the charts before he began a career in film scores, but he continued to dabble in a solo career. In 1991 "Dream Weaver" was re-released for the soundtrack of Wayne's World and two solo albums followed in the late ‘90s and early 2000s.
