Allison Goldfrapp is one of England's premier musical talents and her versatility has allowed to her to contribute vocal, keyboard and songwriting talent to the music world. She teamed up with composer Will Gregory in the late 1990s and the duo formed the group that bears Allison's surname as its own. The tandem's 2000 debut came in the form of Felt Mountain, an effort which showcased Allison's stunning vocals set to a variety of musical genres in an electronic mold. The album made for an impressive debut and set the stage for future releases.

Fans of Felt Mountain came flocking when the duo released Black Cherry in 2003. The record featured a more synth-driven sound and many songs' lyrics featured more risqué themes and sexual undertones. The album failed to resonate with some of the fans of Goldfrapp's debut, but gained new followers while pleasing a good portion of their existing base. Black Cherry served as the duo's first charting effort, climbing to the top five on the Billboard Top Electronic Albums chart.

The tantalizing tandem returned with Supernature, released in 2005 in the U.K. The album was a hit, but was not released in the U.S. until the following year. Propelled by the single "Ohh La La," the album became the duo's best effort yet. Supernature seemed to be the result of a marriage of Goldfrapp's first two records, inheriting the good traits and avoiding the not-so-good.

The duo's 2008 effort, Seventh Tree, seems to serve as a bit of a break from the dance floor. Departing from the sometimes frantic sound that they'd become known for, Goldfrapp takes it down a notch with a more acoustic-driven vibe. The album exposes it roots at times, but shows a slowed-down side of the tandem. The change in sound didn't seem to hurt their charting prowess, as the single "A&E" earned them the top slot on the Billboard Hot Dance Singles Sales list.
