Hall + Oates has become a staple of the pop/rock genre, inserting hit after hit, even after their heyday during the 1980s. The reason this duo has remained so prominent on the music stage is in part because of their ingenuity and their determination to carry their songs to the top of the charts. Their commercial success can mostly be attributed to six number one singles, all of which showcased a true dedication to new wave and hard rock while still incorporating the use of classic soul traditions. With a reflective air and a lively, amiable attitude, Hall + Oates personifies the very best in soft rock and pop rock music.

Daryl Hall first started performing professionally while he was attending Temple University, and a few years later he met John Oates. Together the duo started writing and performing folk-oriented songs that are exemplified in records like Whole Oats, Abandoned Luncheonette and War Babies. During this time, they were still establishing their sound and managed the one hit "She's Gone," which was released in the spring of 1974. The duo then moved to the label RCA in 1975 and scored a Top Ten single with the song "Sara Smile." Although the group was emerging as a solid rock group, their mainstream success would really show throughout the 1980s.

With the album Voices, Hall + Oates started their strong path to vast commercial success. A couple of songs that made an impact on fans were a cover of the Righteous Brothers' "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" and the hit single "Kiss On My List." They also found success with Private Eyes as well as H20, the latter of which featured the big time hits "Maneater," "One on One" and "Family Man." Although Hall + Oates found the most success throughout the eighties, they also launched a recent comeback and are still finding their way back onto the charts in a big way.
