British innovation group Herman's Hermits epitomized their group's name. Though they began with the original name of The Heartbeats, when Peter Noone joined the mix and earned the nickname Herman, the group's name changed.

Peter Noone was born in 1947 in Manchester. His father was a semi-famous musician and eagerly pushed his son toward a career in the arts. While Noone's father began pushing him toward a career in the theatre, Noone had other ideas.

The original youngsters who contributed to the Manchester band scene of the ‘60s included The Heatbeats members Keith Hopwood (guitarist/singer), Karl Green (bassist/singer), Derek "Lek" Leckenby (guitarist/singer), and Barry Whitwam (drummer). The teenagers saw moderate success, and found their finalized group in Noone, when their former vocalist didn't show up for a gig. The newly named Herman's Hermits continued to showcase their pop/rock sound at local performances, until managers Harvey Lisbery and Charlie Silverman introduced Mickie Most to the boys. The meeting impressed the producer, who led them into a contract with EMI-Columbia in England.

Success wasn't far behind, as the boys recorded and released their first single, "I'm Into Something Good." The single swept both the American and English charts, and made the boys overnight international stars. However, the California-poppy sounding quintet had little to do with their recordings, much of the expensive production work done without any of their collaborations. Still, Herman's Hermits saw screaming fans around every corner as Noone's voice streamlined over radio stations everywhere.

Over the next few years the boys continued to produce poppy, all-American rock that saw more success in the US than their home country, which almost made the boys stop performing. They continued to roll in the success over the next few decades, before Noone left the group in 1970 to pursue a solo career.
