Bring together four classically trained voices from different regions in Europe, and you're sure to create beautiful music. If the voices belong to four men with dashing good lucks, you end up with a phenomenon--a phenomenon like Il Divo.
The culmination of a two-year talent scouting project, the opera-pop group Il Divo was finally assembled in 2003, and consists of American tenor David Miller, French vocallist Sebastian Izambard, Swiss tenor Urs Buhler and Spanish baritone Carlos Marin. Togethere, they form one of the most successful classical vocal groups working today, lending their unique talents to both classical compositions and covers of modern pop songs. They released their first three albums all in the same year--and all three proved to be highly successful.
The group's self-titled debut album was released in 2005, quickly running up to number four on the Billboard 200. While they didn't bowl over critics, they attracted a large following because of their amazing pop standards, like a cover of Toni Braxton's "Unbreak My Heart," which went up to number 33 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart.
The same year, they released a compilation of Christmas standards titled The Christmas Collection. This was hugely successful for a Christmas album, rising to number 14 on the Billboard 200. Ancora, their third release for 2005, was a number one on the Billboard 200.
In 2006, they followed up with Siempre, which only rose to number six on the Billboard 200, but included some very impressive hits.
