New York-based indie rock band Interpol may look like one more funky rocker outfit on the outside, but the group's juicy soft post-punk sound and unmistakable vocals have landed the quartet a stone's throw away from the rest of Greenwich Village's funky indie scene. The group has gained a large following of eclectic music lovers, and over the last 10 years has seen Billboard glory in the U.S., Canada and Europe.

Interpol sprouted out of a partnership between two New York University students and one other young musician. In time, guitarist/vocalist Daniel Kessler befriended drummer Greg Drudy, and bassist/keyboardist Carlos Dengler and guitarist/vocalist Paul Banks were soon thrown into the mix as well, creating a four-man band in 1998. Though Drudy quickly left the band, Sam Fogarino soon replaced the drummer and Interpol has remained the constant quartet ever since.

Making their debut to the public with jam band appearances in clubs in and around New York, Interpol eventually began touring, first in the U.K. to promote their EP Fukd I.D. series in 2001. Finally signing with Matador in 2002, Interpol released its debut LP Turn on the Bright Lights the same year, hastily becoming famous among indie rockers. The band went on a world tour after 2002 to bring in a steadier fan base, and even opened for the Cure at the Curiosa Festival in 2004. 2004 also saw the release of Antics, the Interpol album that landed as the number one Top Independent Album that year, and it also resulted in a record deal with major label Capital Records. Our Love to Admire, Interpol's debut major-label album, was released in 2007, and it made the group a standard name in the indie genre. Our Love to Admire peaked at number four on the Billboard 200, also making the charts in Canada.
