Everybody always thought that Jake Owen would make it big, they just thought he would be a leader in the sports industry. He always held a passion for golf, and he even became an immediate walk-on member of the golf team at Florida State University when he attended college. His dreams of life on the green quickly faded, however, when a serious waterskiing accident impeded his dreams of being a golfer. Owen turned his gaze to his guitar and taught himself to sing. He gained acclaim at the campus bar, where he delighted young listeners with his incredible skill and his handsome good looks. Students took time away from studying to see Owen strum his trusty guitar, and he had soon gained a wide following of fans throughout the university. His fame, though, would stretch beyond the boundaries of the university and even of Florida. Jake Owen was on the fast track to success in the music industry, and there would be no stopping him.
The ambitious Owen focuses on studying various other artists that included Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard and Keith Whitley to further perfect his style, and even though he was inexperienced, he was dedicated to learning and practicing his new skill. He soon headed to Nashville to further promote his blossoming career in the industry and befriended producer Jimmy Ritchey. Together, the duo wrote a couple songs including the popular jingle "Ghost." As he became more well known and respected throughout Nashville, he won a record contract with Sony/BMG and released his debut album called Startin' With Me in 2006. One of the major singles that spawned from the record was his incredibly popular hit, "Yee Haw."
Jake Owen keeps listeners tuned in with his sentimental lyrics and his playful personality that shines through his songs. Fans appreciate his mellow style, which is often viewed by many as a welcome addition to the country music industry but often categorized as a little too corny and predictable. Jake Owen has roped in plenty of fans over the years and keeps fans engaged with a new twist on country music tunes.
