After winning a scholarship at the age of 20, Jane Monheit's career seemed on the fast track for mainstream success. Since debuting in 2000, this contemporary jazz vocalist has made a name for herself that appears to reach a wider circle of fans with each new album.

Monheit was a runner-up in the Theolonius Monk Institutes's vocal competition, earning her $10,000 to study music professionally. The institute has got its money's worth, with Monheit being compared to Diana Krall in 2000, when she debuted with Never Never Land. Her talent was recognized right away, sending her record up to a peak of two on the Top Jazz Albums chart. Her follow-up came hot on its heels in 2001. Come Dream With Me earned her many fans, especially after the single "I'm Through With Love" got on the airwaves.

"I'm through with love I'll never fall again/Said adieu, to love, don't ever call again/For I must have you or no one/And so I'm through with love/I've locked my heart, I'll keep my feelings there/I have stopped my heart, with icy frigid air/And I need to care for no one/And so I'm through with love," the lyrics for that lovely tune go.

The album performed even better than her debut, becoming a number one on the Billboard Top Jazz Albums chart. In the Sun, which was released the year after, peaked at two. It was considered somewhat weaker as a release.

2004's Take A Chance On Love restored her to her former level of success, and the title suggests "I'm Through With Love" was sung a little too soon. It was yet another number one for Monheit, and she would score one last number one in 2007 with Surrender.
