She's a soul-infused combination of Erykah Badu and has that sensual Lauryn Hill style, but R&B queen Jill Scott also has so many other qualities transpiring in her music that she is completely in a class of her own. Scott is a musical genius who has hit albums, singles and even two Grammys under her belt, but the neo-soul crooner has crafted her own original music around soulful experiences, producing some of today's most eclectic but in-touch tunes.

Scott grew up in Pennsylvania, slowly turning her days of being a star at poetry readings into a full-fledged crooner of sung versions of the poems. Eventually garnering big crowds at October Gallery, the local art spot where she would perform, Scott was discovered there by the drummer Amir from "?uestlove" Thompson of the Roots, who invited the young poet into his studio to write (in five minutes!) what became the Roots' Grammy Award-winning single "You Got Me." After this collaboration with the Roots, Scott went on to contribute to artists like Eric Benet (on his remix "When You Think of Me",) Will Smith (in Willennium's "The Rain") and on Common's Like Water for Chocolate album. She's also been in the Canadian production of the Broadway musical Rent, all before releasing her many award-winning albums.

Scott released the question and the album Who is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1 in 2000, not including in the album that her alter ego's name is Ami (which, ironically, is "I am" spelled backwards). Perhaps finding herself through the album, Scott went on to release 2001's Experience- Jill Scott 826+, followed by Beautifully Human- Words and Sounds, Vol. 2 in 2004 and The Real Thing- Words and Sounds, Vol. 3 in 2007. Continuing to wow audiences across the nation, Scott finally released the compilation of guest appearances entitled Collaborations in 2007.
