His name is Barry. John Barry.

That name may not be as famous as the line "Bond. James Bond," but John Barry's score for the James Bond films is.

Born John Barry Prednergast in York, England, Barry has been creating film scores since he was a child. Born to a classical pianist mother and a father who owned theatres and cinemas in Lancashire and Yorkshire Barry grew up constantly watching films at his father's theatres, he learned at an early age to appreciate music. While serving for two years in the National Service, he played trumpet with the army band and organized the music for the group.

Once he left, Barry started "The John Barry Seven" where he sang and performed a few instruments. The group was fairly successful with a few hit singles and appeared on the BBC television series "Drumbeat," where Barry was later asked by Adam Faith to continue working for the television series. After their appearance on the show EMI's Parlophone Records label signed Barry's group. When Faith started acting in film, Barry would accompany his performances with his own arrangements. The film Beat Girl was Barry's first experience as a film composer, and from there his career took off. He was asked to arrange Monty Norma's "Dr. No" film, and the James Bond theme emerged. John Barry Seven helped out, and the rest is history.

While still remaining a significant composer for films, creating compositions for the films "Midnight Cowboy" and "Dances with Wolves," he has also produced a few albums of his own, including Moviola and The Beyondness of Things. He has won five Oscars over the years, either for Best Score or Best Song, for Born Free, The Lion in Winter, Out of Africa, and Dances with Wolves.
