The name John Denver is almost synonymous with the organic sounds of country and folk. It was no secret that the famed singer/songwriter loved nature and frequently used it as the subject of his many hit songs. It is no wonder he had a special appreciation of nature since he got to see so much variety as a child.

Denver was born Henry John Deutschendorf in Roswell, New Mexico on December 31, 1943. His father was in the Air Force, thus Denver spent his childhood in different parts of the West. When he was reaching adolescence, he was given a guitar by his grandmother. He developed a love with music as he did with nature and adopted Denver as his last name while performing at his college, Texas Tech University. He later dropped out of college to pursue music in Los Angeles and joined the Chad Mitchell Trio. Denver started a solo career in 1969 and released Rhymes and Reason. It pushed him toward fame with the song "Leaving on a Jet Plane." He followed it up with Whose Garden Was This and Take Me To Tomorrow.

John Denver had developed a large fan base by this time and began to become a prolific singer and songwriter. He has had eight albums certified platinum and 14 certified gold in the United States. It is no surprise that he was active in politics, including environmental causes. He toured in the USSR during the cold war and performed at Chernobyl after the tragedy there. He tried his hand at acting as well and can be seen on TV and in films like Oh, God!, Walking Thunder and John Denver &
