Keb' Mo' was born Kevin Moore, on October 3, 1951 in Los Angeles, California. Though he was raised on the West Coast, Keb's parents were both from the Deep South, so he gained an early appreciation for the musical traditions of that part of the country. His fascination with the music from the south led him into contact with the seminal Delta blues, which traveled up the Mississippi River in America's first full century as her own country. His incredible skills as a vocalist and guitarist have brought him wide respect, as he creates a contemporary sound which is uniquely based on the old-fashioned country blues style of the dark and legendary figure Robert Johnson.

At the age of 21 Moore joined the R&B band wave, becoming part of the group that was later hired by violinist Papa John Creach for one of his tours. In his early career Keb' Mo' opened for some of the great Jazz and Rock artists of his day, including Jefferson Starship and Loggins & Messina. Keb' Mo' created his first album for Chocolate Records, which barely proceeded the collapse of the label. During the rest of the ‘80s he joined the Whodunit Band of Monk Higgins, and played a residency with them at Marla's Memory Lane.

He made his stage debut at the Los Angeles Theatre Center, playing a blues guitarist in the play Rabbit Foot in 1990. He released his eponymous debut album on June 3, 1994. His gutsy playing and incredible songwriting skills made his debut album one to cherish, with critics looking forward to greater things to come. His second album Just Like You, incorporated a full band to his music which expanded the traditional definition of blues and gave Keb' Mo' room to grow further. Most recently he has produced Suitcase under the label Red Ink, on June 13, 2006.
