Kenny Rogers has reached an iconic status after decades in the spotlight. It is no wonder that this incredibly talented musician continues to dominate music charts, and he boasts so many hit songs that it has become nearly impossible to keep track. Kenny Rogers was born in Houston, Texas and formed his first band while he was still in high school in 1956. He has not stopped making music since then. Before embarking on his successful solo career in the 1970s, Rogers was the member of several different bands that included The Scholars, the Bobby Doyle Trio, the New Christy Minstrels and ultimately with The First Edition. It was with the latter group that Rogers found himself blinded by the spotlight. The First Edition enjoyed hits with "I Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)," "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town" and "Reuben James."

After the group parted ways, Rogers was left on his own to pursue a solo career. Faced with a decision of what direction he wanted to take his music in, Rogers focused on the allure of country tunes and produced a major hit with 1975's "Lucille." Other popular ballads were soon to follow and they came in the form of "Daytime Friends," "Sweet Music Man, "Love Or Something Like It" and "The Gambler," which told a vivid story, one that would eventually be made into a movie starring Rogers himself. The storyteller continued relaying elaborate yarns over the next few decades, further establishing himself as a successful artist. Rogers also focused on his abilities as a photographer and founded his own record company in 1999.
