Starting out as the prominent eighties duo Kool G Rap and DJ Polo, this rapper enjoyed a highly successful and influential run for several years before venturing out on his own. His style is both hardcore and East Coast rap, which exhibits a very street-smart style, which at times comes off as a bit thuggish and brash. This is his main appeal, however, as he uses the elements of confrontation to his own advantage and draws in fans with his assertive edge. Born in 1968 in Queens, New York, he knew the ways of tough street life and set out to introduce the world to his own unique style of rap music.

Kool G Rap debuted on Cold Chillin' Records with the single "It's a Demo/I'm Fly" in 1986. Shortly afterwards, he joined with DJ Polo and the duo became a well-known collaborative effort throughout the rap music circuit. They released their debut album, Road to the Riches, in 1989, which received high marks from critics, and the record itself became highly influential to other blossoming artists in the genre. They also went on to release other albums that included Wanted Dead or Alive and Live and Let Die.

Kool G Rap's solo career took off after releasing 4, 5, 6 which was an immediate success among both fans and critics who were eagerly awaiting a kind of new take on rap music. His second solo album also scored big. It was called Roots of Evil and dropped in 1998. He continued recording on into the 2000s and released The Streets, quickly followed by My Life and The Giancana Story. After some trouble with his record label, Kool G Rap decided to take the independent route. Although he eventually became less successful, he still appears on many recently released albums, collaborating with other rappers.
