Matt Nathanson was born in 1973 in Boston, Massachusetts, but is now living in San Francisco. Most famous for his incredible skill with his 12 string guitar, he became well known on the college circuit at the start of his career where he first toured in order to gain a fan base. Since he began to become famous he has had songs on several popular TV shows. His song "Loud" was one of the first to feature on television, and was played during the hit series Dawson's Creek. He has also had songs on Smallville and Road Rules. But his live shows are the ones to look out for, as apparently this man does more than just own the stage, he masters it. This is quite a feat, as his live shows are usually stripped down to Nathanson and cellist Matt Fish on-stage. The shows feature some stand-up comedy, not just music, and as many of his songs tend to be on the more pensive side, this creates a nice balance of mournfulness and humor.

To date Nathanson has released two live albums and a total of six studio ones. His first was Please in July of 1993, under the label Acrobat. It was followed by Ernst in '97, with the same label. Not Colored Too Perfect came out in '98, also with Acrobat. Then three years passed before Still Waiting for Spring was released on January 1, 2000, the album received rave reviews, showing that Nathanson was beginning to grow in fame. Beneath these Fireworks was released on October 14, 2003, it was his first major-label release and the first album to place in the charts, peaking at number 44 on Top Heatseekers. At the Point came next, in April of 2006, and was his first live album. It was followed by Some Mad Hope on August 14, 2007, and Live at the Point was his most recent in 2008.
