In answer to his breakout album Who is Mike Jones? the Houston-based MC and Southern rapper had people yelling out "Mike Jones (who) Mike Jones!" in an echoing fashion that has yet to die down. The mystifying MC has had deals with Reebok, duets with Usher and Mya, a clothing line and more than 250,000 sales and cameos alongside Jay-Z, DJ Clue and on MTV Direct Effect - all without the backing of a major label. How does he do it, folks? He's Mike Jones!
Born and raised in Houston, Dirty South rapper Jones got into the music business only after his hoop dreams of playing pro basketball failed. Raising enough money to create his own Ice Age Entertainment in 2001, Jones started down the path of rapping and hasn't looked back since. To get his name out in the business, Jones took his one-man gig straight to DJs and in strip clubs, eventually signing to Swisha House label in 2002. Under the small label, Mike Jones dropped albums Ballin' Underground, First Round Draft Picks, Runnin' the Game and Day Hell Broke Loose 2, all the while working on his incredible freestyle verses. Eventually, Who is Mike Jones? surfaced in 2005, distributed through Warner Brothers. The album was the big break Jones had been waiting for, and the album landed at the coveted number one slot on the R&B/hip hop charts in both 2006 and 2007, propelled by singles "Back Then," "Flossin'" and "Still Tippin'."
After making the name Mike Jones ring round the world, the Southern rapper released his follow-up album, The American Dream, in 2007. The album continues to soar up the hip-hop charts, spawning hit singles like "Mr. Jones," "My 6-4" and "Drop & Gimme 50," continuing in the meantime to become a mainstay in the rap industry.
