One of the most conflicted and controversial figures in the techno industry today, mix-master Moby has become one of the world's most prominent DJs , serving his assortment of quick disco beats and heavy guitar rhythms straight up to a mainstream audience who has linked the term "techno" with the artist's face. Moby poked and prodded his way into house music heaven, and his unique and most recognizable beats have garnered astounding success over the past two decades.

Moby was born Richard Melville Hall, receiving the nickname Moby as a child because his great-great grand uncle was Herman Melville, the author of Moby Dick. Growing up in Darien, Connecticut, Moby had a knack for music from the start. He was part of hardcore punk band the Vatican Commandos in his teen years, and the all-around musician even made an appearance as singer for Flipper while the band's lead singer served time in jail. A brief stint in college left Moby with a refined dream for music, and the prodigy began DJing in New York City dance clubs in the 1980s. After a string of unsuccessful attempts at a breakout single, Moby finally hit the jackpot in 1992 with "Go," a track mixed from the theme of television series Twin Peaks. The single was a Top Ten hit in the U.K., and "Go" led to a number of mainstream and underground gigs remixing for acts like Michael Jackson, Pet Shop Boys and the B-52s.

Moby became a prominent fixture in the rave scene throughout the ‘90s, and eventually the artist's debut full-length album Moby was released in 1992. The hit single "Thousand" from his 1993 double A-side release garnered fame in the Guinness Book of Records, producing an astonishing 1000 beats per minute. The now-famous DJ continued to release hit albums through the ‘90s and ‘00s, becoming a staple in techno music all around the world.
