Session men from Phoenix, Arizona started the slick pop rock group Mr. Mister in 1982. Bassist/lead vocalist Richard Page and keyboardist/vocalist Steve George knew each other as boys and after perfecting their own session education as both had worked with the jazz fusion group Pages, a three album collaboration between 1979-1981. Writing singles and singing backup for such artists as the Village People, the two had a circuit before they officially formed Mr. Mister. With the addition of drummer Pat Mastelotto and guitarist Steve Farris, along with Page's cousin and lyricist John Lang, the group scored a record deal with RCA and began their ‘80s trek of radio friendly material.

Mr. Mister's debut album, I Wear the Face, appeared in 1984 and had only one minor single in the form of "Hunters of the Night." It wasn't until the group's second album, Welcome to the Real World, that Mr. Mister proved to be an ‘80s rock asset. Released in 1985, the album saw the hit "Broken Wings," and earned the boys a Grammy nod for Best Pop Vocal Group. The albums' second single, "Kyrie," followed a year later and set the tone for the rest of the album, setting Welcome to the Real World toward platinum success. With their third single, "Is it Love," the group secured their spot as ‘80s rock stars and continued to tour and make their presence known at award shows.

Recording for their third album took a while mostly due to Mastelotto's back problems. After the sessions were finished, Lang left for New York, and the 1987 release only saw moderate success with the Miami Vice single "Something Real (Inside Me/Inside You)." Go On saw a few more hits, like "Stand and Deliver" for use in the film of the same name and the European hit "Healing Water," but even so, the group couldn't pick up from where they left off. Disagreements between Page and Farris had the latter leaving the group and led to the group's eventual demise by the end of the ‘80s.
