Members of the grindcore band Napalm Death have stuck with one trend and one trend only in their two decades together - to defy and outlast every trend possible. With a repertoire that excels in uncompromising and recklessness, the Birmingham, England group began raging in 1982 and haven't stopped since. Combining cut throat lyrics with high speed beats, the metal grunge band struggled their first few years together mostly due to their rebellious attitude that wanted nothing to do with melodies. After adopting some hardcore punk rifts, the group created their debut LP, Scum in 1987 with their own Earache label. After several lineup changes had the group's A and B sides sounding totally different, Scum found a hardcore underground audience with the help of BBC Radio One DJ John Peel.

The group's next few albums, including 1988's From Enslavement to Obliteration and 1990's Harmony Corruption saw more lineup changes and some of the shortest tracks ever (with several lasting only a few seconds long). 1990's album was an attempt at more conventional metal thrash, but Napalm Death wasn't satisfied and created an opposite EP, Mass-Appeal Madness to counteract the album.

The final "original" member (or rather longest lasting member) left in 1992 to an entirely new group of individuals who still loved to beat down melodic-less tracks. When 1994's album Fear, Emptiness, Despair hit the Top Ten Billboard pop albums charts, the nation and the band was shocked. Thanks to their singles on the Mortal Kombat soundtrack the album received loads of critical and commercial attention, the first and last time Napalm Death would see such commercial success. The group has continued to create more music over the years with new members but with the same hardcore thrasher grind.
