Just as good looking as he was when he first began in the music industry over five decades ago, Neil Diamond has become one of the most prolific singers, songwriters and performers of all time.

Born in 1941 in Brooklyn, Diamond was always interested in music but didn't start performing professionally until he was premed at NYU. Partnering up with Jack Packer, the duo (Neil & Jack) signed a recording contract but only released two singles before splitting. Diamond went back to school and started up again in the music industry, this time as a songwriter. During the early ‘60s he had a few songwriting recording contracts and by the time he was 22 (1962) had his first recording contract (though only one single was released before he was dropped). Over the next few years he started seeing moderate success with different record companies and producers as both a songwriter and singer, including the Monkees "I'm a Believer." While his covers remained big hits, his first few singles didn't do so well on the charts. His debut LP The Feel of Neil Diamond appeared in 1966 and featured only a few original songs, while his second LP Just for You did a little better.

During the release of his second LP he started feeling insignificant with his record company and began signing contracts with others. The battle regarding his contract with Bang lasted for another ten years until Diamond finally bought his Bang master recordings and ended the process. It was around this time, the late ‘60s, that he began seeing a decline in his work. He moved to Memphis and focused on country-rock rather than pop and found comeback success with the 1970 single "Sweet Caroline." Over the next few years he began to see more gold and platinum singles and continued to remain in the spotlight thanks to his incredible stage presence and total surrender to his newfound country genre.
