The Australian and American band, the Newsboys, is one of the most popular and successful cross-over Christian bands to come out of the ‘80s and ‘90s. They have been on the music scene since 1988 and are still going strong. As a Christian band, they have had some pretty phenomenal achievements and made waves where most Christian bands would not appear. They have been featured on CCM, USA Today, and other well-known newspapers and magazines. For their Love Liberty Disco Tour, they made history as the first band to carry with them their own Airdome. Over the course of their career as a band, they have won several awards and recognition worldwide.

The Newsboys did not have the clean-cut, pristine start that most Christian music artists do by starting out playing music in churches and then gradually gaining further recognition. For them, it was dim bars and seamy nightclubs in Australia, where the original group was first formed. Their goal was to start a band that would be true to their faith,but not insularly Christian and separated from the rest of society. Their plan has succeeded, and they have played for crowd after crowd of multicultural and multiethnic people from every religious background imaginable.

The eclectic style and uncharacteristically secularly-relevant music have made the Newsboys popular to a wider audience than most Christian pop artists today. Their ability as performers makes their live concerts an amazing experience, and they are definitely a band that is enjoyed by many. They back up their faith by presenting the world with lyrics such as those found in their songs "Step on Up to the Microphone," "Devotion," "Strong Love," and "Lord (I Don't Know.)"
