Obie Bermudez

"Heart-felt music from real life" is the only phrase that can adequately describe the music of Obie Bermúdez. His love of music combined with his love of poetry come together to create an art that has been a presence in the Latin music charts for the past several years. His passion for poetry was combined with the guitar lessons from his father, an avid Beatles fan, and his mother's love for Salsa, to bring music to the public that delights the ears and enlivens the heart.

Bermúdez was born in Puerto Rico, in the small mountain town of Aibonito, but his family moved to the beautiful agricultural area of Vineland, New Jersey when he was 12. In 1996 Bermúdez had his initial foray into the music industry when he created his first demo. His debut album, Locales was produced by RCA two years later in 1998. Even though the album drew some attention, it did not draw enough for Bermúdez to continue in the music industry at that time. He took a five year hiatus, working at a laundromat in the South Bronx.

The break from the industry actually proved to be invaluable, because working at the laundromat gave Bermúdez the material that he used for his next album. Conefesiones was released by EMI in 2004. With this album Bermúdez enjoyed the acclaim that he had not received with his debut in 1998. He was an immediate success, the first single, "Antes," reached number one on the Latin music charts. Since Confessiones was released, he has enjoyed constant success enjoying a constant presence in the Latin Music Charts. His newest album, Solos Exitos is a two-disc release, compiling the best singles from his first albums.
