PFR broke onto the Christian music scene with their sunshine pop-rock with a sound that was different and well-presented, which the Christian music scene immediately embraced. The group actually started in Minnesota, which gave them enough distance to keep them from being heavily influenced by the Christian rock culture of the day, and set them ahead of the pack. With the heavy influences of the Nashville music scene far away in Tennessee, and the open spaces and lakes of Minnesota to inspire them, the group was able to go places with their music that few Christian artists of the day were capable of.
Fans were devastated in 1999, when at the top of their game PFR walked away from it all, leaving the business of making music behind them. With rising expectations of fans and five years of intensive recording behind them, during which they released four albums, along with the intense tour schedule that they had been keeping, the group was ready to move away from music. They had simply run dry and realized that the only option they had was to go their separate ways. Though they reconvened for a short period in 2001 to release the album Disappear, the group has stayed apart for good. And perhaps that is for the best, with them walking away at their peak they will remain living legends of Christian Rock and Roll.
The group's most famous album was "Them" - an album that entered The Billboard 200, peaked at number four on Top Contemporary Christian and number five on Heatseekers was a provocative song about the secular music scene. With the lines "It's all to clear the/Wealths of violence and/sexual perversion/Offer more than just/some innocent/psychological diversion," the group clearly states their belief that secular music encourages much of what they feel is wrong with modern society.
