Born in Eisenhuettenstadt, East Germany, van Dyk grew up in communist East Berlin where he had no access to club culture. The musician was inspired by all kinds of music growing up, and by the 1990s he had made it his career goal to bring a unique type of music to the area. In the early ‘90s van Dyk started spinning at clubs in Berlin like the legendary Tresor club, releasing his debut album 45 RPM in 1994 after working with artists like Cosmic Baby, New Order, Humate and Sven Vath. Van Dyk's career exploded from here, and by the mid-‘90s the DJ was spinning in clubs all across the globe. Seven Ways, van Dyk's sophomore album, was released in 1996, featuring the smash singles "Beautiful Place," "Forbidden Fruit" and "Words."

Paul van Dyk started infiltrating the American electronic scene in the late 1990s, releasing hit singles and albums such as "Tell Me Why (The Riddle)" and Out There and Back. Van Dyk's name has been plastered all over the Billboard charts since the early 2000s, reaching number two on the Top Heatseekers and Top Electronic Albums charts in 2007 while singles like "The Other Side," "Let Go" and "White Lies" have all made the Top Ten on the charts since 2005.
