Getting the boot on a reality television music performance show doesn't mean your career is over. For Phixx, it was just the beginning. The group's members met while performing on Popstar, a British show where contestants get to try out their skills and become the popstars they idolize. All five singers--Andrew Kinlochan, Chris Park, Nikk Mager, Mikey Green and Peter Smith--joined together in 2003 and earned a record deal with Hyperactive. The company saw their performance and thought they had a good shot at fame. Hyperactive already had a similar success story--Liberty X--on their roster, and they had earned a number of high-ranking songs on the charts.

Phixx issued "Hold On Me" as their first single. "You come to me like a thief in the night/slip into my conscience then you bleed into my mind/tear my heart defences down/And I know/the temptations just too strong/Can't let go 'cause I'm weak/to the taste of your seduction/Yeah,yeah,yeah,yeah/you've really got a hold on me/you're my soul temptation/you're the black of midnight/stealing at the light of day," go the lyrics to that hit.

Their follow-up, "Love Revolution," was also a chart success. "It's a love revolution/I thought I knew what love was about/Was lost in a maze couldn't find my way out/Then with one touch you set me free/You open my mind, my spirit, my body/It's a sanctuary, it's the sweetest tunnel of light (light, light)/It's like fire burnin' through my veins and I feel so alive," that song went.

Smith left the group for a solo career just before they released a debut record in South Africa, Electrophonic Revolution. Shortly afterward, tensions in the band tore it apart. All its members still were itching to get out under their own names, and the band broke up in 2005 so that each could pursue his own solo career.
